In 2021, my friend Miguel Ángel Tejedor (Miguetelo) released Cyclus, a clever game for the ZX Spectrum (128K/48K) made with AGD. It offers two distinct versions: on Side A, you’ll find an original puzzle and strategy challenge where you must guide a snail—who moves autonomously—toward the exit of each level by placing and removing boxes. On Side B, you control the snail directly to collect coins in a more arcade-style gameplay. Once all coins are collected, the door blocking the exit opens, allowing you to progress to the next level. The game includes 128K music and beeper effects for the 48K version.
Recently, in preparation for the upcoming physical edition of the game to be released by Matranet, Miguel asked me if I’d be interested in creating an illustration for the cover. Since I think the game is fantastic and has that brilliant dual gameplay concept, I happily accepted. My intention with the illustration was to capture the essence of the game and create something colorful that reflects the mix of action and puzzle, always with a retro touch reminiscent of classic covers from the era, like I did with Robots Rumble.
If you haven’t tried it yet, you can download Cyclus for free from Miguetelo’s page on itch.io. https://miguetelo.itch.io/cyclus
